Flowers, leaves and herbs, drawn from real species
Botanical is the softest part of my work — flowers, leaves, herbs and other plant forms, usually drawn from the species themselves rather than from a generic flower shape. It matters more than you’d think. A peony packs its petals inward, a poppy sits on a thin, wobbly stem, and a bluebell only looks like a bluebell if the bells hang the way they do in a meadow. When you draw from the real plant, the tattoo keeps that character on skin.
Underneath it’s all fine-line: delicate single-needle black lines as the foundation, with soft shading and fills when a piece needs them, and a touch of color when it suits the flower. That’s what people usually mean by a delicate flower tattoo — hairline stems, open negative space, petals suggested rather than filled in. A wildflower tattoo in fine-line can be barely there. Add soft shading to the same design and it gets more depth. We work out which of the two suits your idea while I’m sketching.
Some pieces need more than line alone — a single bloom the size of a coin, with real light and shadow inside it. That’s micro-realism — a little scene on the skin, done with the same light hand. If you’re not sure which direction fits your reference, just say so in your first message — that part is my job.
Every flower tattoo here is custom. It starts from your idea, your references, your placement — I draw a personal sketch before the session and we adjust it together until it feels like yours. From your first message to a healed tattoo
What happens when you book a botanical piece with me, plus the two things people always ask: will it last, and where should it go?
Tell me which plant it is
Send a short description, a few references, a rough placement and size. If you know the species — lavender, cosmos, the roses from your grandmother’s garden — name it. A photo of the actual plant beats ten Pinterest boards and changes how the drawing turns out.
Price range, then the date
I reply with a price range for your idea and the next available dates. A non-refundable deposit holds the date and comes off the final price.
The sketch comes first
I send you a custom sketch a few days before we meet, with time for changes — shorten a stem, turn a leaf, rotate the whole composition to follow your arm. Nothing goes on your skin that you haven’t seen and approved.
A calm session, not a race
We tattoo in a quiet studio and take breaks whenever you need them. You leave with an aftercare card, and I check in with you afterwards — the full routine is also on the aftercare page if you want to read it first.
How thin botanical lines age
Done well and cared for properly, these tattoos last a lifetime. I design line weight and spacing with that in mind.
SPF 50+ is the whole trick
The sun is the main reason fine-line work fades early. Once your flowers are healed, SPF 50+ on that spot is the best protection you have — a small habit that makes all the difference years from now.
Where flowers sit beautifully
You can put a flower anywhere you like. Fine-line sits especially well on the forearm, spine, ankle, collarbone, ribs and shoulder, where a stem has room to follow the body’s own lines — but the final choice is always yours.
